About the Institution
The World Trade Organization administers international trade agreements, including the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS), an important component of the international intellectual-property framework.
Why It Is Relevant to International Publishing
The TRIPS Agreement sets minimum standards for copyright and trademark protection, and for enforcement procedures, that WTO members must provide — incorporating the substantive provisions of the Berne Convention. It is a key reference for which rights and remedies are likely to exist in a given member's territory.
